Studies suggested that phytosterols could play a very vital role in the reduction of heart diseases and also it helps in the prevention from Alzheimer's diseases. Doctors or physicians also suggest for phytosterols in diet, as it helps against the development of cancer related diseases. In Addition, phytosterols also helps in lowering cholesterol and provides benefits to the skin as well.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has provided the guidelines for the use of heath claims on food labels regarding the consumption of foods enriched with phytosterols may reduce the risk of heart related diseases.
The American Society of Family Physicians (AAFP) and U.S Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) have also mentioned benefits of phytosterol consumption in their report. According to Food Standard Agency U.S., food manufactures and food business operators have expanded production of phytosterol added foods.
