RUBICONMD AND UCSF PARTNER TO EXPAND ACCESS TO SPECIALTY CARE
Strategic Partnership Will Help Improve Access to Care
RubiconMD, a leader in specialty eConsults, today announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). RubiconMD and UCSF will build a virtual specialty network in the cloud, allowing primary care providers on RubiconMD to get same-day insights from UCSF specialists.
In collaboration with UCSF’s Center for Innovation in Access to Quality (CIAQ), RubiconMD has re-envisioned the eConsult platform for the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), a UCSF partner whose physicians are on the UCSF faculty. The platform represents the future of collaborative care, allowing providers across the San Francisco Health Network to get rapid opinions, or eConsults, on a patient case from specialists. ZSFG is widely recognized as the foremost authority on eConsults, having conducted the first academic studies of eConsult and eReferral programs, which were published in 2013 in The New England Journal of Medicine. “Through CIAQ at ZSFG, we seek to create innovative models that can be replicated to improve quality of care across underserved populations,” explained Delphine Tuot, MDCM, MAS, eConsult director and co-director for CIAQ. “We really needed a partner who deeply understood clinician workflow and had experience implementing eConsults across the country, so we could imagine the future for an eConsult and eReferral model, and build together a highly customizable and scalable solution.”
In addition, UCSF specialists located at ZSFG will begin providing opinions for primary care organizations on RubiconMD’s eConsult platform. “The expanded relationship was a natural extension of the work we were already doing together,” said Elizabeth Murphy, MD, DPhil, Chief of Endocrinology at ZSFG and eConsult specialty lead for UCSF’s CIAQ. “The partnership is an opportunity to further UCSF’s mission to improve access for underserved populations. As eConsult pioneers, we’re pleased to be able to support thousands of practices through RubiconMD with evidence-based specialty insights.”
One of the country’s leading academic medical centers, UCSF is home to many of the world’s experts across nearly every area of specialty services. The university is driven by the idea that by bringing together the best in research, the best in teaching and the best in patient care, they can deliver breakthroughs to advance health worldwide.
“We’re honored to start working with forward-thinking organizations in UCSF and ZSFG, which are not only thought leaders in eConsults, but who also share the same vision and passion for enhancing access to specialty care as we do,” said RubiconMD CEO & Co-founder, Gil Addo. “Being able to deepen our relationship by also offering eConsults from UCSF specialists is truly revolutionary. We will be able to bring the expertise from UCSF to underserved communities to improve patient care.”
RubiconMD raised a Series A investment in 2016, led by Waterline Ventures and Alma Mundi Fund with participation from California Health Care Foundation’s Innovation Fund, Dioko Health Ventures, health tech giant athenahealth and others. In January 2017, the company announced that J. Nwando Olayiwola, MD, MPH, the outgoing director of UCSF’s Center for Primary Care Excellence, was joining full-time as its Chief Clinical Transformation Officer.
Launched in 2013, RubiconMD, a healthcare technology service, connects primary care providers to top specialists, enabling quick remote opinions that eliminate unnecessary visits, reduce patient wait time and alleviate travel burden. We drive meaningful results by bringing appropriate clinical expertise into the primary care setting. For more information or to schedule a demo please visit www.rubiconmd.com.
