Sallie Mae Contributes $5,000 in Support of the 2017 Easterseals/CAI Volleyball Challenge

Donation Will Help Easterseals Provide Critical Services for Local Children and Adults with Disabilities

NEWARK, Del.--()--Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company, announced a $5,000 contribution to support the Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore Annual Volleyball Challenge recently held at William Penn High School in New Castle. The donation will help Easterseals continue to provide critical services to local children and adults with disabilities. Since 2001, the Volleyball Challenge has raised more than $4.7 million to support Easterseals services.

“Sallie Mae has been a strong community advocate for our vital mission and especially the Easterseals/CAI Volleyball Challenge for many years,” said Ken Sklenar, president/CEO of Easterseals Delaware & Maryland's Eastern Shore. “Their continued financial and volunteer support helps sustain our services, including education, outreach, and advocacy so that children and adults with disabilities can live, learn, work, and play in our community.”

In addition to the charitable contribution, employees from Sallie Mae’s Newark headquarters participated in the event against other local companies. Each year, more than 200 volunteers, nearly 100 companies, and more than 150 teams and corporate sponsors support the event to encourage team building, camaraderie, community awareness, creative solutions, and enhancing lives among participants.

“Philanthropy and good corporate citizenship go hand-in-hand at Sallie Mae. We encourage employees to improve their communities,” said Bonnie Rumbold, chief human resources officer, Sallie Mae Bank. "As a company, we consistently support programs and initiatives like Easterseals that help open doors and opportunities in our local communities.”
