SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A program that is grooming the next generation of social-entrepreneur allies will soon be receiving the 2017 Cordes Innovation Award for academic learning, which honors pioneering, high-impact and replicable educational programs in support of social entrepreneurship.
The award to the Global Social Benefit Fellowship of Santa Clara University’s Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship, will be presented during the Ashoka U Exchange conference, March 2 - 4 in Miami.
What: The Global Social Benefit Fellowship has sent more than 75 Santa Clara University juniors to countries including Uganda, Mexico, Paraguay and India to conduct research that directly benefits partner social entrepreneurs. With the avid interest in social entrepreneurship among millennials, the program is drawing 100 inquiries every year – including some students who choose SCU specifically in hopes of becoming a Fellow.
Graduates of the Fellows program have gone on to Fulbright scholarships, non-profit liaison work at Silicon Valley tech companies, and leadership of social enterprises or centers of social entrepreneurship.
Where: Ashoka U Exchange is one of the world’s largest annual gatherings that highlights exciting, globally relevant models of social innovation in higher education. The 2017 Cordes Innovation Awards recognize premiere innovative programs that advance social impact education. Miller Center’s Global Social Benefit Fellowship (GSBF) is the winner in the Academic Learning category, one of four award categories.
The Cordes Innovation Award is presented by Ashoka U, an education initiative of Ashoka, the world’s largest network of social entrepreneurs, and the Cordes Foundation.
It will be presented at Miami’s Downtown Hilton Hotel, Ballroom Level, 1601 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL 33132.
When: The 2017 Cordes Innovation Award winners will be celebrated on Friday, March 3, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Who: Accepting the award on behalf of Santa Clara University and Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship will be Keith Warner, Ph.D., OFM, director of education and action research at Miller Center and co-founder and director of the GSBF. Warner will also give a keynote at the event, on March 3 at 9:30 a.m.
Details: Since 2011, Ashoka U and the Cordes Foundation have presented the Cordes Innovation Awards. The 35 previous winners of the awards include ThinkImpact, Echoing Green’s Work on Purpose, Global Citizen Year, University of Oregon’s Sustainable City Year Program and Brown University’s Swearer Sparks storytelling platform.
