Comcast Partners with The Arc of Lane County to Provide Digital Education to Adults with Learning Disabilities

“Keys to Success” Program Grand Opening Showcases The Arc’s Learning Lab

EUGENE, Ore.--()--Comcast has partnered with The Arc of Lane County to construct a Learning Lab dedicated to teaching adults with disabilities essential computer skills. The Lab will celebrate its Grand Opening at the Arc’s Annual Banquet on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 5:00 pm.

While 83.3% of U.S. households report computer ownership, only 25% of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities own one. Funded with a $10,000 donation from Comcast, The Arc’s Learning Lab offers “Keys to Success,” a six-week course designed specifically for adults with disabilities to build basic computer skills and to learn to navigate the internet.

“Internet skills are critical to bridging the digital divide,” said Comcast Senior Regional Vice-President Rodrigo Lopez. “We are so pleased to partner with The Arc to teach their clients email basics, social media navigation, and resume-building.”

The “Keys to Success” program will be graduating one of its classes at the Open House, presenting diplomas to the participants. The class has been so successful that The Arc is adding a more advanced class in January.

“Our partnership with Comcast has enabled us to offer our clients really important curriculum,” said Arc Executive Director Pamela Ring. “Learning the basics such as how to set up an email account, resume writing, and the importance of Internet safety are important skills to have today.”

When asked about the program, Jason Coker, a recent graduate of “Keys to Success” offered, “I was really excited to make my resume and get closer to my dream job.” At the end of the class each student made a short presentation that they will share at the Banquet.
