City Gala 2017 Event to Honor Russell Simmons with Inspiration Award on Feb. 12

Post Grammy Event to Unite Celebrities and Business Leaders in Celebration and Support of Humanitarian Causes

LOS ANGELES--()--On February 12, following the 59th Annual Grammys, the 2nd annual City Gala, presented by Entrepreneur Magazine with sponsors Daniely Design Group and Allure Events and Catering, will present a special Inspiration award to hip hop music legend and co-founder of Def Jam Records, Russell Simmons. The award will honor Simmons’ tireless work in support of the arts, animal rights, ethnic understanding and other core causes, including equality of marriage and gay rights.

The City Gala is working to advance community by promoting humanitarian events. The 2017 event, at The Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall, will include a Red Carpet, plenary presentation, and celebrity meet and greet, live entertainment and a silent auction.

The 2017 event also includes Halle Berry as Summit keynote, John Travolta as a special guest speaker, and Quincy Jones as recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented by philanthropist and business leader John Paul DeJoria.

"Whether promoting the arts, education and entrepreneurship, or working to end discrimination and increase understanding, I try to use my platform to uplift and empower others,” Simmons said. “I am honored to be recognized by this group of individuals who are so deeply committed to celebrating our collective good deeds.”

Jeff Timmons, of the Grammy-nominated pop group 98 Degrees, will serve as City Gala 2017 emcee, and best-selling author and business conference leader Greg Reid will moderate the event.

Says City Gala founder and executive producer Ryan Long, “We are extremely pleased to welcome Russell Simmons as a special honoree in our 2017 program. His life and work are a tremendous example of the passion and principles the City Gala program upholds.”

To that end, the 2017 event is supporting the International Arts & Philanthropy Foundation (IAP), which provides funding in support of arts, education, early childhood development, and the Breed Life program which supports and facilitates the gift of life through live organ donation.

About City Gala

Since its inception in 2015, the City Gala program has raised funds and awareness in support of non-profit, charitable organizations. Based on its success, the program has expanded in 2017 to include the City Summit, a full-day and evening entertainment and networking experience that brings together the highest level of entertainment and business leaders in a common agenda of social consciousness, achievement and a dedication to giving forward to worthy humanitarian programs throughout the world.

The City Summit is a business conference and networking event that takes place on Saturday February 11 at the USC Building – South Park Center. Red Carpet for the Summit will begin at 8:00 a.m.

The City Gala features a keynote speaking program and awards ceremony for humanitarians, followed by social atmosphere and party, takes place on Sunday, February 12 at The Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall. The Red Carpet will begin at 7:00 p.m.
