CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee’s Medicare Advantage (MA) line of business had the largest growth among MA carriers in the state, gaining almost 11,000 members during the recent annual enrollment period.
The BlueCross Medicare Advantage Plan grew 10.5 percent with 10,499 new members for a total enrollment of 110,657. Including both Medicare Advantage and Dual Special Needs Plans (DSNP), BlueCross grew 10 percent to nearly 125,000 members.
“We are really proud of our growth and are poised to continue growing,” said J. Todd Ray, vice president and general manager of Senior Products for BlueCross. “We offer a quality, affordable plan and are locally-based right here in Tennessee. That’s important to our members.”
BlueCross remains the second largest carrier in the state behind Humana, but has been gaining ground steadily over the last few years.
BlueCross saw its largest membership growth in the Nashville, followed by the Chattanooga and Memphis regions. Rural areas also experienced solid growth in new membership.
“We had some new members that turned 65 and aged-in, but we had a lot of switches from other plans and switches from traditional Medicare as more Tennesseans realized the value in our Medicare Advantage plans,” Ray said. “From the Mississippi River to the Great Smoky Mountains, our fellow Tennesseans are turning to BlueCross for their health care coverage.”
