Firm Opens New Office in Portland, OR

BOSTON--()--NEPC, LLC, one of the industry’s largest independent, full-service investment advisory firms, today announced major plans to grow its Private Wealth Group into a significant family office business and one of the firm’s key practice areas. To support this effort, NEPC announced the hiring of renowned family office professionals and former CTC | myCFO Managing Directors, Karen Harding and Kristi Hanson. Harding and Hanson will be joining the firm as Partners and are based in NEPC’s newly-opened Portland, OR, office.

NEPC’s Private Wealth Group currently provides a wide range of high-touch services to ultra high-net-worth individuals and family offices, including investment and philanthropic advice, legacy planning, and multi-generational investment planning. “Growing the services of our Private Wealth Group has been a major initiative for us,” said NEPC’s Managing Partner, Mike Manning. “Our capabilities are enhanced by finding top-tier financial industry talent who understand every nuance of the family office/private wealth business, and can provide our team with innovative thinking and a new structure for the delivery of investment advice to ultra high-net-worth individuals and their families. Karen and Kristi are exactly the right people at the right time to help guide our growth in this area. Along with KC Connors and the rest of our existing Private Wealth Team, I know they’ll make enormous contributions to this team and to the entire NEPC franchise, and we look forward to growing the team even further throughout the year.”

About the New Hires

Karen Harding

Immediately prior to joining NEPC, Harding served as a Managing Director at CTC | myCFO, a company at which she had worked for the past 21 years. In her most recent role, Harding was responsible for overseeing the delivery of investment advice to clients across the entire enterprise, including the development and implementation of long-term investment policies, analysis of client portfolios, recommendations of appropriate portfolio allocations, and the evaluation and selection of investment managers. She also served as the Co-Head of the Investment Advisory Services team, chaired the Investment Advisory and Fiduciary Services Management Committees, and was a member of the CTC | myCFO Operating, and Family Office and Capital Advisory Services committees.

Prior to that, she was a Senior Analyst and Investment Manager Specialist at R.V. Kuhns and Associates, an investment consulting firm where she identified, evaluated, and selected investment managers for client portfolios.

She received a B.A. with highest honors in finance and minors in Economics, French and Russian from Oregon State University, and an MBA with honors from Portland State University in Oregon. She is a CFA charter holder and member of the CFA Society of Portland. Additionally, she previously served on the board of the CFA Society of Portland and served as the Vice-Chairman of Oregon State University Foundation Investment Committee.

Kristi Hanson

Hanson joins NEPC after an 18-year career at CTC | myCFO, where she held a number of senior-level roles, most recently as Managing Director and Director of Research. There, she chaired the Research Directors Committee, where she directed the evaluation and recommendation for all managers included in client portfolios across the enterprise. Hanson was a member of the CTC | myCFO Operating Committee and the Investment Advisory Management Committee. She was also co-manager of several hedge fund of funds portfolios offered by the firm and for some of its clients. Prior to that, she served in a variety of roles at CTC Consulting, including President and Director of Research, Director of Hedge Fund Research, and Director of Alternative Research.

Before joining CTC, Hanson oversaw research, identifying, evaluating and making investment recommendations for Genesee Investments, a hedge fund of funds. She started her career as an auditor in the Financial Services Practice at KPMG in Washington, DC.

She received a B.S. with highest honors, with majors in accounting and corporate finance, from the University of Idaho. She is a CFA charter holder and a member of the CFA Society of Portland. Hanson serves on the University of Idaho Foundation Board.

“I absolutely love what I do, and in looking for a new opportunity I wanted to find a company with people who feel similarly about their roles. Beyond this, I wanted to work for a thought leader, a firm that has a pristine reputation, superior research capabilities, is totally client focused, and is owned by its employees. NEPC checked every one of those boxes,” said Karen Harding.

Added Kristi Hanson, “an equally important factor for me was the cultural fundamentals of the companies with whom I was speaking. NEPC rose to the top every time because of its high-energy culture, its impressive growth in recent years and the obvious passion every employee has for what they do. I am just thrilled to be part of the NEPC team.”
