HANOVER--()--As well as being a top-performing economic hotspot in the heart of Europe and a perfectly interconnected location, Hanover also boasts a fascinating wealth of leisure activities, excellent yet affordable housing and a beautiful natural setting in one of Germany’s greenest cities.

Japan meets Hanover - this goes hand in hand with many friendly relations and a warm welcome in the capital of Lower Saxony. A central link is the twinning between Hanover and Hiroshima, which dates back to 1938. Ever since, relations have been constantly nurtured by various associations, initiatives, peace work and exchange visits. What’s more, Hanover’s Mayor, Stefan Schostok, is Vice-President of the “Mayors for Peace” organization founded by the Mayor of Hiroshima in 1982.

Visible signs of this partnership include: the Peace Bell in the ruins of Hanover’s Aegidienkirche that is struck on August 6 each year to commemorate the atomic bombing, the Japanese tea house in the city park, the popular sushi stand at the Maschsee Lake Festival and the Hiroshima Grove, where the annual Cherry Blossom Festival is held every April.

Nature and tranquility – with the advantages of a large city

Quality of life in Hanover is extremely rich, with its top-class cultural and sporting events, an impressive number of museums, exclusive shopping in one of Germany’s largest pedestrian zones, not to mention its famous Herrenhausen Gardens and its picturesque old town. Legendary events such as the Maschsee Lake Festival and the world’s largest marksmen’s fair attract crowds of tourists and locals alike each year.

We look forward to welcoming you in Hanover!
