LOS ANGELES--()--Beloved Los Angeles radio host Ellen K is spending Giving Tuesday, the first Tuesday following Thanksgiving, sharing inspiring stories of patients, doctors, nurses and supporters of Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).

Ellen will broadcast her November 29th morning show from CHLA, encouraging listeners to “Live L.A. Give L.A.” – the name of CHLA's holiday fundraising campaign that starts on Giving Tuesday. She's asking people to support CHLA's mission to build hope and healthier futures for the hundreds of thousands of kids who come through its doors every year — including Ellen’s own son, who recently underwent orthopaedic surgery at the hospital.

Along with patients and staff, a few celebrities also will be calling in to chat with Ellen on air. That includes actress Drew Barrymore, who is the celebrity face of the Live L.A. Give L.A. campaign. The mother of two has hosted several events for patients and their families at the hospital and recently received CHLA's Courage to Care award for her longtime commitment to children.

After Ellen K's show, which runs from 5:00am-10:00am on KOST 103.5, several CHLA Junior Ambassadors and local community partners, such as Porto’s Bakery and Café will showcase their Giving Tuesday spirit with their own events at the hospital. These include:

  • Jayhann, 13, a leukemia patient currently receiving monthly chemotherapy at CHLA. He’s made it his mission to help other kids like him and has already raised more than half his $10,000 goal through lemonade stands, bake sales and T-shirt sales.
  • Sasha, 8, who was born with cerebral palsy and recently had surgery to correct her walking gait. Using expressive art to support CHLA, she custom paints jeans and other denim clothing for donations and has raised more than $3,000. Actress Jessica Biel has been spotted wearing one of Sasha's creations.
  • Sandra, 12, a Junior Ambassador who has partnered with Big Sugar Bakeshop in Studio City the last two years to raise funds for CHLA by selling specially-designed cupcakes.
  • Porto’s Bakery and Café, who is donating 20 percent of sales from all cheese rolls purchased on Giving Tuesday (at all three locations) to CHLA.

"We have so much to be thankful for this holiday season, and I’m inspired by patients like Jayhann, Sasha and Sandra. Despite facing their own adversity, they have gone above and beyond in selflessly dedicating themselves to improving the lives of others," says Children's Hospital Los Angeles President and CEO Paul S. Viviano. "They truly embody the heart of our Live L.A. Give L.A. message, and I am so grateful for their example."

From 10:00am-11:15am, these patients and other Junior Ambassadors will be at CHLA handing out lemonade, CHLA-branded cupcakes from Big Sugar Bakeshop, and pastries from Porto’s to patients, their families and CHLA staff. The Junior Ambassador program comprises mostly middle- and high-school-aged volunteers who are patients, patient siblings and other youth interested in helping others. Many create their own events to raise funds and spread awareness for the 350 programs and services available at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

In recent years, Giving Tuesday has gained popularity as a philanthropy-driven contrast to Black Friday, and has become a global movement galvanizing people everywhere to support causes in which they believe. December also is a crucial time for Children's Hospital Los Angeles to raise funds — CHLA is one of the nation’s leading pediatric clinical and research facilities today largely because of community support. Each and every gift to CHLA helps the hospital provide critical, lifesaving care to patients who come not just from Los Angeles, but from all 50 states and from more than 50 countries around the world.
