NEW YORK--()--DHL, the world's leading express shipping and logistics provider, has partnered with the Boy Scouts of America Baltimore Area Council to deliver a taste of home to U.S. troops overseas. Twenty four pallets of popcorn have been shipped over 6,500 miles to the U.S. military men and women serving in Afghanistan, Kuwait and Djibouti.

“We know that our freedom to gather with family and friends and to celebrate the upcoming holidays is because of the brave men and women serving our country abroad,” said Mike Parra, CEO, DHL Express Americas. “We are pleased that we at DHL can do a small part to say ‘thank you’ to our U.S. troops.”

To celebrate the efforts of the Baltimore Area Council, DHL Express Global CEO Ken Allen, DHL Express Americas CEO Mike Parra and Boy Scouts of America Baltimore Area Council COO, Manny Fonseca, met with four Boy Scouts, each representing one of the four levels of the Boy Scout program, for their hard work in gathering the donations needed to provide the popcorn to make this special delivery possible to U.S. troops.

DHL has a long tradition of offering the resources of its global express shipping network to support U.S. troops overseas. Together with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, DHL has sent more than 620,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies® to servicemen and women during 10 years of “Operation Cookie.” In the past, cookies have been delivered to the local National Guard, Long Island Marine bases, Coast Guard and military personnel stationed abroad.

Since 2004, it is also DHL tradition to team up with the New York community for “Operation Holiday Cheer.” Since its inception, thousands of fresh-cut Christmas trees, holiday letters, decorations, menorahs and gifts have been shipped to Afghanistan, Bahrain and Kuwait, to help military men and women celebrate the holidays while serving abroad. This year’s delivery will launch on Monday, December 5, at JFK International Airport. The festive cargo will be shipped to the DHL Americas Hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG), where it will be loaded onto a DHL 777 aircraft that travels nonstop to the Middle East.

“Year after year, we’ve been able to send some wonderful reminders of home to let our troops know we are thinking of them,” said Parra. “DHL is proud to donate our global shipping network and to work with great community partners like the Boy Scouts.”
