Aetna Urges Medicare Beneficiaries to Shop and Save for 2017 -- Before December 7

-- ANNOUNCES PUBLIX, WEGMAN’S AND KMART ARE NOW PREFERRED PART D PHARMACIES --

HARTFORD, Conn.--()--Aetna (NYSE: AET) urges Medicare-eligible Americans to take the time to review the many 2017 plan options available to them during open enrollment before time runs out on December 7.

“Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plans and stand-alone Part D prescription drug plans (PDP) change every year, and plan providers such as Aetna have never worked harder to be competitive. For 2017, Aetna has increased the number of $0 premium plans we offer and 93 percent of our current members have access to them,” said Nancy Cocozza, president of Aetna Medicare. “We encourage Medicare consumers to shop and compare PDP and Medicare Advantage plans offered in their area. They may find lower premiums, more attractive networks, richer benefits, better formularies and hundreds of dollars in savings.”

Part D Plans: Benefits and a Network Designed for Affordability and Convenient Access
For 2017, Aetna is proud to announce that Publix, Wegman’s and Kmart pharmacies will join our preferred pharmacy network. The preferred distinction means extra savings for members, with Tier 1 generic co-pays as low as $1.

“Whether Medicare members participate in a stand-alone Aetna Part D prescription drug plan or an Aetna MAPD plan, they can save money by filling their prescriptions at these fine locations, or more than 22,000 other preferred pharmacies including Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Kroger, Costco, Albertson’s, Winn Dixie, Safeway and others,” Cocozza said.

The preferred network pharmacies are part of Aetna’s broad network of over 60,000 retail pharmacies, which supports all three Aetna PDPs that are available nationwide. Aetna has a range of PDPs including low premium options, plans with $0 deductibles, plans with $1 copays, and plans with coverage in the coverage gap. Also, all Aetna PDPs cover at least 96 of the top-100 drugs most commonly prescribed to Medicare beneficiaries*. In addition, nine of the top 10 generics used by Medicare beneficiaries are covered on Aetna’s Tier 1, including: lisinopril, amlodipine, metoprolol, simvastatin, atorvastatin, metformin, levothyroxine, omeprazole and furosemide**.

MAPD: Our Stars Are Shining, with More Plans than Ever
Medicare beneficiaries deserve quality care, and Aetna proudly has the highest percentage of Medicare members enrolled in plans rated 4 or higher overall stars among publicly traded companies***. In the 2017 star ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Aetna MAPD plans achieved an overall enrollment weighted average rating of 4.0 stars out of 5 stars. Aetna has increased the number of members enrolled in plans with a star rating of 4 or higher to 91 percent, representing a four-percentage point increase from last year.

“We are focused on supporting our member’s personal health journeys and enhancing care coordination, patient safety and satisfaction, and of course, on improving our members’ overall health care experience,” Cocozza said.

For 2017, Aetna is offering MAPD plans in 38 states plus Washington, D.C., including 134 new counties and 6 new states – Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Washington and Wisconsin. Aetna also offers standard Medicare Supplement and other senior supplemental products in all 50 states.

“From Maine to Arizona and Florida to Washington, there’s a good chance Aetna and its companies – Coventry, Health America (HAPA), Altius and First Health – are there, and we look forward to continuing to serve more Medicare eligible people in the years ahead,” Cocozza said.
