SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Revel Systems, the world's leading iPad Point of Sale management solution for brick-and-mortar retail, food businesses and more, today announced the release of Retail Revelations, a report revealing key findings as a result of a survey conducted from July 7, 2016 to July 15, 2016. The report provides an in-depth look at the current state of retail, emerging trends, how in-store technology impacts business, and how retailers can stay ahead of their competitors in a seemingly digital world.
Revel surveyed 2,500 consumers from all over the United States, revealing that — in the age of online giants like Amazon — physical retail shops have yet to be replaced by online retailers. More than 63% of people said they have purchased goods (like home products, clothing, prepared meals and groceries) at a physical store at least four times in the last month, compared to the 28% who shopped online at least four times in that same time. Loyalty has proven to be a matter of pride for consumers as more than 94% of respondents believe it’s important to support independent, local businesses.

As consumer and technology expectations evolve, retailers must adopt the technologies necessary to meet the growing demands of the consumer. The report states that more than half of the respondents expect a state-of-the-art experience with a store’s Point of Sale system. Tech savvy consumers are compelled to know about a product before purchasing, as a whopping 93% of people surveyed say that they research an item online before buying it in person.
The report identified additional insights, including:
- 56% of respondents say they prefer shopping in person versus online
- More than 1 in 4 of respondents would like to use Apple Pay or Samsung Pay at checkout over traditional forms for purchase
- 5x more people will develop brand loyalty when they shop in person rather than online
