Global Revenue from Smart Water Networks Projected to Reach $7.2 Billion in 2025, According to Navigant Research

During the next decade, increasing affordability of related technologies is expected to drive market growth, report finds

BOULDER, Colo.--()--A new report from Navigant Research analyzes the market for smart water network products and services, with details related to market issues, opportunities, and barriers to expansion, in addition to global forecasts for installed capacity and revenue from meters and other smart water network technologies, through 2025.

In many regions of the world, water infrastructure has either fallen into disrepair or is not sufficient to supply the needs of the population. The challenge of supplying clean water to a growing global population requires a more sophisticated approach than traditional mechanical technologies allow, calling for a shift toward digital solutions for water metering, infrastructure monitoring, and customer billing. Click to tweet: According to a new report from @NavigantRSRCH, global revenue from smart water networks is projected to grow from $2.6 billion in 2016 to $7.2 billion in 2025.

“Non-revenue water, aging infrastructure, and quality concerns are driving water utilities to adopt smarter systems, in the form of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and automated meter reading (AMR),” says Anne Wrobetz, research analyst with Navigant Research. “This transition is occurring in regions like North America, where metering is widespread but tends to be carried out by often inaccurate, mechanical meters, and in regions where metering and point-of-use distribution networks are relatively recent, such as in some parts of Asia.”

As the costs of AMR and AMI technologies gradually fall over the next decade, the affordability of smart water systems is expected to drive continued market growth, notably after 2023, according to the report. A majority of the revenue generated will be from sales and installation of intelligent water meters, though communication devices, data management systems, and water network monitoring and control services will also significantly contribute.

The report, Smart Water Networks, examines the global market for smart water network products and services. The study analyzes the major market issues, including the business case for communicating water infrastructure, opportunities, and barriers to market expansion, related to smart water networks. Global market forecasts for installed capacity and revenue from meters and other smart water network technologies, segmented by technology, meter type, and region, extend through 2025. The report also examines the key technologies related to smart water networks, as well as the competitive landscape.
