The New York Times Names A.G. Sulzberger Deputy Publisher

NEW YORK--()--The New York Times announced today that A.G. Sulzberger, 36, has been named deputy publisher. In this role, he will report to publisher Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., and work closely with him and other company leaders, including president and CEO Mark Thompson, executive editor Dean Baquet and editorial page editor James Bennet, on all facets of the business and news operations of The New York Times Company. His appointment is effective November 1, 2016.

A.G. is the son of the current publisher. His promotion comes at the recommendation of a selection committee whose members included representatives of The Times Company’s senior management, Board of Directors and the Ochs-Sulzberger Family Trust. It was approved by the company’s Board of Directors on October 18, 2016.

Since July 2015, A.G. has been associate editor for strategy, responsible for leading a team that focused on The Times newsroom’s continued digital transformation. He was a key contributor to the Company’s most recent strategy document, Our Path Forward.

In 2014, A.G. was the leader of the task force that reported and wrote the Innovation Report, a transformative document that has been used as a blueprint for change in countless newsrooms. He has been a driving force in implementing the recommendations of the report and in finding ways for the newsroom to better collaborate more broadly with groups across the company.

A.G. joined The Times in 2009 and has worked as a reporter and editor on the metro desk. He spent two years as a national correspondent, as head of the Kansas City bureau. Previously, he was a reporter at The Providence Journal and The Oregonian. He graduated from Brown University in 2003.
