SPENCER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 2016 Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) Expo brought together leaders of the specialty imaging industry this year in Las Vegas. In addition to a successful showcase, FLEXcon was recognized in the Association's prestigious Product of the Year Competition with two awards in the Finishing – Laminates, Adhesives, Films, and Coatings category, and the Media – Non-PVC category.
FLEXcon’s FLEXmark® V240 R Clear Sharklet™ was named a winner in the finishing – laminates, adhesives, films and coatings category and is an overlaminate featuring innovative biomimetic technology inspired by the microbe-resistant properties of shark skin. Designed by Sharklet Technologies, Sharklet is the world’s first microtexture that inhibits microorganism attachment and growth. FLEXcon has mimicked the texture in an overlaminating film that is now available to the imaging market. The material features 2.4 mil vinyl coated with a permanent adhesive and backed with a polyester overlaminating liner. It is also available as non-PS film.
FLEXcon’s SHIMMERcal™ Silver Special glitter film was customized to produce a decal for SGIA members and was named a winner in the Non-PVC category. The 22 mil specialty film allowed Modernistic to print UV Screen on both sides for a dazzling decal that helps 5,000 SGIA members draw attention to their commitment to the imaging industry. FLEXcon's standard line of self-adhesive SHIMMERcal glitter films, as well as its custom constructions, like the SGIA decal, makes projects stand out amongst the competition and is ideal for novelty stickers and decals, promotional graphics, and point-of-purchase displays.
“It’s an honor to be recognized among a field of outstanding entries and by a distinguished panel of judges, who understand the technology and market opportunity for such products. We take pride in the acknowledgement of our persistent pursuit of innovation that brings value to the imaging community”, said Jodi Sawyer, Market Development Manager, Product Branding Business Team, FLEXcon. “We are committed to industry organizations, such as SGIA, and it was a real honor to receive two Product of the Year Awards.”
“We have worked with FLEXcon for five years and are thrilled to share in this recognition,” said Mark Spiecker, CEO at Sharklet Technologies. “FLEXcon has proven to be a true partner helping us to stay one step ahead by providing us with superior materials. Through innovative thinking and a collaborative spirit, they enable us to bring our revolutionary surface product to market and help us advance our mission to create a cleaner, safer world.”
The competition judged submissions across 19 categories for output devices and 29 categories for non-output devices. Conducted during the 2016 SGIA Expo (Las Vegas, September 14–16), this year’s event was one of the most challenging in recent history.
“We are really thrilled with the participation from exhibiting companies, and we even doubled the product categories to correctly acknowledge all of the possible technical accomplishments honored in this competition,” said Ray Weiss, SGIA’s Digital Specialist. “The award winners have been extremely enthusiastic about their wins, understanding just how competitive the field was this year.”
