ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SpiderOak, maker of the world’s most trusted online backup solutions, today announced the availability of Active Directory (LDAP) integration with Semaphor. Built for teams and business who care about security and privacy, Semaphor is a real-time messaging and collaboration tool that offers Zero Knowledge protection for individuals and organizations. Thousands of teams have already started using Semaphor since its release this summer.
“This week at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2016 in Orlando, we are showing businesses how encryption can be an integral strategy for protecting corporate communications and a simple way for IT to lower institutional business risk,” said Mike McCamon, president of SpiderOak. “Enterprise customers require managed authentication for its users. Semaphor with Active Directory simplifies user management, team onboarding, and further protects organizations from data compromise.”
Using the Semaphor API, LDAP support has been implemented as a bot. Unlike competitive solutions, who use third party services that create a wider attack surface for hackers, businesses deploy the bot on their own infrastructure, even behind the company firewall. Once connected to the corporate LDAP, the bot automatically implements authentication policy to provision, and can manage and de-authorize users from a team.
Available at the end of October, SpiderOak will also make Twitter, GitHub and RSS bots available for Semaphor teams. Compared to Integrations, bots can implement features like business rules that can process content, making teams more productive. For instance, the Twitter bot will allow teams to not only monitor tweets, but will also notify users of content that meets various criterion. Likewise, the GitHub bot will post activity to channels but can also notify users of particular events. These bots can be easily modified by customers allowing for further customization.
Semaphor allows teams to collaborate online, safe in the knowledge that all of their conversations are private and encrypted through SpiderOak’s Zero Knowledge design. Zero Knowledge design strictly limits metadata availability and goes beyond common end-to-end encryption practices, which only protect the user’s data when it is being transferred between endpoints. By ensuring that no information leaves a computer or mobile device until after it is encrypted, and is never decrypted until it is unlocked with keys located on each individuals’ device, neither SpiderOak or even team administrators can access all content sent by Semaphor users. Other security features include keyless identity verification, cryptographically independent conversations, password-less sign up and secure device-to-device provisioning.
SpiderOak recently closed its series B funding round with a total of $4.5M, which will be used to continue Semaphor product development and expand its enterprise market.
The Semaphor client application has reviewable source code available at https://spideroak.com/solutions/semaphor/source that allows teams and developers to verify the security and cryptographic techniques used in the application. For only $9 per user per month, teams can have unlimited message history and unlimited channels. Enterprise pricing is available.
