NORCROSS, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Consumer devices and Android deployments are seeing a major surge among large enterprise organizations, creating new complexities for businesses as they adapt to their evolving mobile ecosystems, according to data from Stratix, the leading enterprise managed mobility services (MMS) provider.
Stratix sampled 200,000 deployments from 2013 to 2015 and found that consumer devices skyrocketed to 60 percent from 20 percent of total deployments during that time. Stratix has also seen a sharp uptick in Android usage, with deployments jumping to 70 percent from 20 percent of all rollouts during that timeframe. Meanwhile, Windows usage declined dramatically, while Apple iOS platforms increased steadily, maintaining a strong position among platforms.
With these shifts come new complexities in mobile lifecycle management, such as more involved device repairs and application platform migration tasks. Unlike rugged devices, many consumer devices don’t have built-in capabilities such as scanners or magnetic card readers, prompting businesses to use two- or three-piece device solutions with multiple repair workflows. While rugged manufacturers also offer no-questions-asked repairs, that’s not the case with many consumer manufacturers. Consumer operating system platforms also continue to introduce features and abilities, increasing configuration options and automation possibilities.
“Since VDC began covering enterprise mobility in 1995, the field has become exponentially more complex and difficult for organizations to navigate on their own,” says David Krebs, EVP at VDC Research. “VDC’s research confirms much of what Stratix is seeing among its customers, with a variety of technical challenges, growing sophistication of mobility solutions and limited internal support capabilities opening the door for professional third-party mobile managed services.”
Stratix has designed one of the most comprehensive mobile control centers in the industry. Building off of three decades of mobile experience, Stratix provides a range of services, from procurement, provisioning and deployment to a 7x24 mobile support center, management and monitoring of corporate MDM environments, as well as a complete reverse logistics and repair facility.
