LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research Institute for Learning and Development, (ResearchILD) announced that Daniel Koh, Chief of Staff to Mayor Martin J. Walsh of Boston, will deliver the keynote address at the organization’s annual Pathways to Success Gala at The Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge on November 17, 2016. ResearchILD, a 501(c) 3 organization is dedicated to the research and development of resources that address learning differences and is internationally recognized for its mission to help students with learning and attention differences to find their own pathways to success.
Dan’s presentation, “How ADHD Became My Strength,” will spotlight the positive outcomes that an ADHD diagnosis has had on his life success and the significant role that compassionate adults, including parents and teachers, have held in the process. The audience will include parents and students, many of whom are affiliated with ILD, ResearchILD’s sister educational consulting organization, teachers, community leaders, and supporters who are connected to the field of learning differences. Nearly 11% of children, close to 6.4 million, between the ages of 4-17 are diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia and executive function deficits every year.
Proceeds from the fundraising event will benefit ResearchILD’s SMARTS Executive Function and Mentoring program and its implementation in underserved schools, including the Boston Public Schools. SMARTS is currently being used in 500 classrooms throughout the US and internationally. The Program provides struggling learners with strategies to assist them with key executive function processes including organizing, prioritizing, memorizing, thinking flexibly, and self-monitoring, thus teaching students to learn how to learn.
“The field of ADHD has long needed a passionate advocate who understands the challenges and rewards of ADHD from a personal perspective,” stated Dr. Lynn Meltzer, President of ResearchILD. “ResearchILD has been a leader in transforming the lives of students with learning challenges for over 30 years. We are thrilled that Dan is willing to share his experiences with our audience which will provide hope and encouragement to so many students who struggle with learning.”
