PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leading ethics and compliance software and services company NAVEX Global® today announced Global Privacy Officer and Senior Counsel Amanda Gratchner and Advisory Services Vice President Andrew Foose will be featured presenters at the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Annual Meeting, October 17 in San Francisco.
Ms. Gratchner will participate on a panel addressing the critical nature of data privacy protection and the value of EU Privacy Shield certification. She and fellow panelists will discuss the General Data Protection Regulation and related recent privacy developments in the EU such as the right to be forgotten, Weltimmo and how these apply to global businesses as well as the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield program.
“Organizations like NAVEX Global are moving beyond pure compliance with privacy laws and obtaining certifications by incorporating an advanced risk-based approach to privacy through all aspects of their businesses,” said Gratchner. “This approach is informed by the quantity and type of personal data an organization collects with a keen eye on where service offerings are delivered and how that is influenced by legal compliance requirements in jurisdictions around the globe.”
There has long been a perceived transatlantic trust-gap related to data privacy and security issues and philosophy. EU laws require that organizations demonstrate adequate and reasonable measures in protecting the information in their possession and to validate that these measures are actually in place.
“We are now in an era where privacy is integrated into the product and service development lifecycle; it is necessarily a fully integrated feature,” said Bob Conlin, NAVEX Global President and CEO. “Consequently, we have adopted a leading, conservative approach to incorporating privacy and security into new and existing offerings as part of the development process.”
According to Gratchner, the data privacy challenge is magnified due to the proliferation of third-party business partners organizations must use to support their business. Since many of these relationships require the sharing of personal data and customer information, she recommends that organizations follow a data minimization and transparency approach.
“Only the minimum amount of personal data that is absolutely required for the transaction should be shared with third-parties,” said Gratchner. “And it should be done in a transparent manner open to all parties involved.” Organizations should look to any third-party with whom they share information to provide documented and verifiable assurances regarding protection and security of personal data.
NAVEX Global’s Andrew Foose will also be featured on a separate panel regarding global ethics and compliance investigations. Mr. Foose is a recognized expert in international bribery and corruption law and related regulations. Along with the other panelists, he will address the unique challenges of cross-border compliance investigations including the varying requirements for data protection.
