ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC), the premier driver of air travel intelligence and commerce in the travel industry, reported today that the consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies decreased nearly 4 percent* this year as compared to 2015, totaling $67 billion vs. $70 billion. September 2016 ticket sales were down 2.6 percent to $7.1 billion against the same month last year. Ticket transactions were up 4.9 percent at 13.8 million in 2016 vs. 2015.
Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD)** sales comprised $32.4 million of the year-to-date sales vs. $12 million in 2015, and $5.7 million of the September 2016 sales as compared to $1.9 million in September 2015. EMD transactions increased 330.8 percent to 500,497 so far in 2016 vs. 116,173 in 2015.
