Ceramic Filters - Market Drivers and Forecasts: Technavio

LONDON--()--Technavio analysts forecast the global ceramic filters market to grow at a CAGR of more than 12% during the forecast period, according to their latest report.

The research study covers the present scenario and growth prospects of the global ceramic filters market for 2016-2020. In order to calculate the market size, we considered the revenue generated through sales of ceramic filter products for applications such as residential, commercial and industrial.

The need of filter for air emissions and water treatment in developing nations, especially in India and Brazil is one of the prime factors for the market growth. Factors such as mechanical failure and fluctuating costs of raw materials pose a challenge to the market's growth. Imposition of regulatory norms regarding environmental safety and effluent water discharge are the probable trends in the market.

Established vendors in the market are investing significantly in R&D for the development of newer materials and efficient manufacturing technologies. The market is likely to witness a drastic shift during and after the forecast period. This is attributable to the rapidly evolving market dynamics due to an anticipated increase in backward and forward integration by manufacturers along with the introduction of advanced fiber composites.

Technavio chemicals and materials analysts highlight the following three factors that are contributing to the growth of the global ceramic filters market:

  • Growing consumption of ceramic filters in emerging economies
  • Increased use of ceramic foam filter in molten alloy process
  • Entry of new players in end-consumer markets

Growing consumption of ceramic filters in emerging economies

BRIC nations are distinguished by their vast and fast-growing economies. These countries represent high-growth end-use markets and also remain strategic because of their geographic location and the critical role they play in international trade. The rapid economic development of Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC) is resulting in large-scale commercial, residential, and industrial infrastructure development, especially in India and China. Growing awareness regarding safe and clean water, increasing industrial applications, and wastewater treatment are expected to boost the market for ceramic filters in these countries.

Ajay Adikhari, a lead plastics, polymers, and elastomers analyst at Technavio, says, “The considerable growth in infrastructure development in these countries has increased the consumption of cement and metals, consequently elevating the demand for ceramic filters in the cement manufacturing facilities and incinerators. The rise in the demand will drive capacity expansions and the establishment of new plants.”

Increased use of ceramic foam filter in molten alloy process

Earlier, ceramic filters were employed only for specialized purposes; however, they have become an integral part of the current foundry operations. The use of ceramic foam filters is growing continuously in the metal casting process. This growth can be attributed to the fact that the value added to the metal by filtering is greater than the cost of filter application and cost for purchasing steel screens.

“The changing operations in the foundry industry have compelled manufacturers to produce different types of ceramic filters for the industry. These fabricated ceramic filters exhibit acceptable properties such as low density, high thermal shock resistance, and adequate strengths, but they are costly,” adds Ajay.

Entry of new players in end-consumer markets

Glass plants use ceramic filters for controlling furnace emissions. The increase in the establishment of new production capacities will boost the demand for ceramic air filters. The global glass industry has witnessed an entry of many new companies. Globally, many smaller glass corporations have entered the float glass industry, especially in developing markets.

Float glass manufacture was set aside for large enterprises that mastered the technology and had the economic resources to carry out the capital-intensive business. Many old players such as AGC, Guardian, NSG, and Saint-Gobain had continued to expand and develop their geographical presence over the last decade. For instance, of China’s 64 plants 10 are operated by one of the four international float glass manufacturers, and seven of those 10 are joint-venture run by local manufacturers.
