Strauss as an Associate Managing Director in Kroll’s Investigations and Disputes practice. Strauss is a former prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice, a Deputy Justice Attaché and Senior Legal Advisor in Afghanistan, and a Director specializing in incident management with the White House National Security Council Staff.

Strauss joined Kroll from the U.S. Department of Justice, where he most recently served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. There, he prosecuted multiple felony jury trials and grand jury investigations, involving firearms crime, money laundering, and narcotics matters. In February 2015, he concluded his appointment as Deputy Justice Attaché and Senior Legal Advisor, at the U.S. Department of Justice’s office in Kabul, Afghanistan, where he was responsible for the Department’s counter-corruption portfolio.
Strauss moved to Afghanistan from his post at the White House National Security Council, where he was Director for Incident Management. His responsibilities included managing a variety of sensitive national security policy matters and supporting the operational needs of the President and senior national security leadership. He worked extensively with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Intelligence Community, and helped coordinate the response to a number of high-profile events.
Prior to his service at the White House, Strauss served as the first Director of Preparedness and Response for the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Security Division, providing regular counsel to the Department’s senior leadership. During this time, he coordinated or assisted in the coordination of the response to several global crisis incidents, including the Japan earthquake and nuclear disaster of 2011. He led the National Security Division’s crisis response and business continuity programs, ensuring that the Division always had the technological and human capability to respond to threats. Strauss began his legal career as a Trial Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Division, joining as a member of the Honors Program and spending years leading complex fraud and False Claims Act investigations.
Strauss earned his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he received the Bemis scholarship and graduated Order of the Coif. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampshire College. He served as law clerk to the Hon. Clarence C. Newcomer in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for two years after graduation from law school. He is admitted to the legal practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Strauss was also an Adjunct Professor at American University School of Law for seven years.
