GEICO says condo insurance protects owners from assuming unnecessary financial risks

WASHINGTON--()--The convenience of a condo is tough to beat. Say goodbye to mowing the lawn, shoveling the sidewalk and cleaning the gutters. But while you don't have to worry about the outside chores, you still need to protect what's inside your unit.

In most cases, the condo association's master policy does not provide coverage for the interior walls of your unit and will not protect your personal items. The condo owner assumes all responsibility. That means if your personal property inside your unit is damaged in a fire or stolen, there is no reimbursement to you.

Condo insurance is designed specifically to protect owners from losses that are not covered by their condo association including theft or break in, smoke and vandalism, windstorms, and fire and lightening. In addition, a condo policy should also include liability coverage for certain kinds of accidents, such as a neighbor slipping and injuring themselves on a wet floor in your kitchen.
