WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today APICS, the premier professional association for supply chain management, announced the launch of the 15th edition of its APICS Dictionary, which provides terms and definitions that ensure a common language among supply chain professionals working in today’s global environment. In addition to the updated dictionary, APICS also announced an update to the APICS Learn It mobile application, which allows users to access and study the more than 4,800 supply chain terms and definitions contained within the APICS Dictionary from their smart phone.

The 15th edition of the APICS Dictionary includes an additional 234 words related to the supply chain industry compared to the 14th edition, which was released in 2013. The latest edition eliminates outdated terminology and incorporates new terms and revised definitions from APICS’s Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) framework, SCOR Professional (SCOR-P) program, and Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD) program in order to be more consistent with the current industry landscape. Additional terminology was included based on direct submissions from dictionary users and editors. The updated dictionary also includes more consistent translations across multiple languages to accommodate its growing global user base.
Updates to the Learn It mobile application reflect the new dictionary content, including new flashcard categories for APICS SCOR and CLTD terminology, as well as upgraded functionality and user interface. The free mobile application, available for iOS and Android devices, allows users to search and study all 4,870 terms and definitions of the APICS Dictionary to improve their supply chain vocabulary both on- and off-line. The update also allows users to customize their learning sessions with the addition of end-of-game flashcard answer summaries and “save for later” features.
Paul H. Pittman, PhD, CFPIM, CSCP, Jonah, and J. Brian Atwater, PhD, CPIM, Jonah edited the latest edition of the APICS Dictionary. Both Pittman and Atwater are professors at Indiana University Southeast. The editors carefully review all suggestions from the public, APICS certification committees, and other subject matter experts to carefully compile this well-respected supply chain reference.
The updated APICS Dictionary will be available on October 1. On that date, it will be available at apics.org/dictionary. APICS members get a free e-download of the APICS Dictionary or beginning October 1 they may purchase a print version for $30 at apics.org/shop. Nonmembers can purchase the print edition for $60.
