HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MicroPact, the global leader in Data-First™ case management and business process management (BPM) software, today announced that the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has selected its VERSA Regulation online licensing solution to migrate and consolidate records for several licensing programs from one agency to another. The project is one of several recommendations by the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission (Sunset) to improve operational efficiencies and limit the size of state government.
TDLR is the largest regulatory agency in Texas, licensing more than 500,000 individuals, facilities, and businesses. In 2014, Sunset recommended that 13 programs regulated by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) be transferred to TDLR, and that some associated independent boards be reconstituted as advisory committees. Legislation in 2015 made this law.
VERSA, which is already in use by Texas regulators to manage over 230 license types within 49 programs, was selected in large part because it has already proven that it can deliver a smooth, cost-effective consolidation and transition. TDLR currently uses an older, custom-built platform known as TULIP (Texas Umbrella Licensing Information Project) to manage many of the existing programs it regulates.
“Moving and consolidating so many programs presented a unique opportunity to configure a new VERSA system for TDLR as a landing spot for them,” said Tom Sechler, CEO of MicroPact. “The sunsetting process is designed to ensure government agencies remain relevant and efficient. From an IT perspective, however, sometimes legislative changes end up being extremely costly to implement. Not in this case.”
During Phase 1 of the project, all configurations and licensee records for seven of the 13 programs will be migrated from DSHS to the new VERSA system for TDLR, which will be hosted in the Amazon Web Services cloud. Go-live is scheduled for October 2016.
