FDB to Support App Development to Help Seniors Manage Health Care and Costs at Health 2.0 Code-A-Thon

Challenge to spur development of consumer-facing applications using open, standardized APIs

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--()--FDB (First Databank), the leading provider of clinical drug knowledge that improves medication-related decisions and patient outcomes today announced that its drug knowledge will be made available to participants in the Health 2.0 SF Code-A-Thon to be held, September 24-25, 2016, in San Francisco, CA.

Participants will have access to the FDB Cloud Connector™ web services API that enables users to connect to the power of FDB drug knowledge via web services hosted by FDB in the cloud, which is architected to provide a robust infrastructure powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). In addition, participants will have access to Meducation® personalized patient medication instructions – that target individuals considered to be “high risk” due to low health literacy, impaired vision and language barriers – via a REST-based web service API that uses existing prescription medication data and associated standard coding schemes.

The Health 2.0 Conference and the pre-conference Code-A-Thon are designed to showcase cutting-edge innovation that’s transforming health. This year’s theme, “Building Technology to Help Seniors Manage Health Care and Costs,” is focused on building new technology to help seniors better understand and engage with their treatment plans. Health care and medical costs can be quite confusing, and seniors, in particular, often have an overwhelming array of treatment options to choose from.

Code-A-thon participants will gather for two days of rapid prototyping with innovators from around the world for a chance to be on the Health 2.0 Conference stage and win cash prizes. Winners from previous Health 2.0 Code-A-Thons have gone on to raise funding, start businesses, receive grants, pilot their technologies and even acquire customers. Registration and participation is free.

“We are proud to support this Code-A-Thon by providing our widely-used drug knowledge base through our cloud-based solution for fast application development,” said Chuck Tuchinda, MD, MBA, president, FDB. “FDB is keenly focused on supporting innovation that addresses optimal healthcare management and cost efficiencies for all patients, especially seniors, because we know that a patient’s access to complete and updated medication information is a crucial component to improving their health.”
