Bemis Associates Strives Towards Sustainable Products and Manufacturing Processes – Receives Nine bluesign ® Certifications in 2016

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany--()--Bemis Associates, the design and development partner for the world’s greatest technical, performance, lifestyle and luxury brands, has announced that it has received bluesign® approval for nine additional products, including Exoflex, three products in the Outtec collection and five new Seam Tapes. This certification brings Bemis’ total number of certified products up to 21 and further solidifies the company’s strong commitment to reducing its environmental impact, while creating innovative products and advancing Sewfree® technology.

“When it comes to sustainability, we focus on a simple statement: being good to what we love is good business. That goes for our products, people and planet,” said Heidi Montanari, EHS officer at Bemis Associates. “Bemis is working to continuously improve our sustainability performance. Our efforts extend beyond product development and deep into the fabric of the company. We think on a global scale about our employees’ health and safety, the operations of our facilities and our customers’ goals.”

Bemis accredits the sustainability program’s improvements in large part to the collaborative partnership with bluesign®. Over the years, the two have worked hand-in-hand to meet the stringent standards established for production management practices in raw materials, wastewater, air emissions, waste management, hazards management, safety and chemical use. Bemis also utilizes the Higg as a tool to measure its sustainability at the physical plant level. Together, these tools have allowed Bemis to quantify sustainability efforts, establish the company as a leader amongst competitors and ensure that this program is an ongoing priority.

According to Lacey Johnson, global brand manager at Bemis Associates, “Bemis is extremely proud to be a bluesign partner, as its members demonstrate sustainable awareness and responsibility to customers and consumers. As a company we are committed to delivering products and materials that our brand partners need and want, this means providing bluesign approved raw materials necessary for them to also receive bluesign approval.”

Bemis’ sustainability efforts also enable the team to enhance existing relationships with clients, as all are working towards a common goal of reducing the environmental footprints of the textile and manufacturing industries. It is important for Bemis’ brand partners to understand how, as a supplier, the company can deliver the right products and operate in a way that complements these efforts by constantly researching and exploring solutions that can support sustainability objectives.
