The Hamptons Listed as Most Expensive Destination in New York State

NEW YORK--()--The town of East Hampton is the most expensive destination in the state of New York. That determination is according to a recent survey conducted by NewYorkHotels.org.

The survey specifically compared 20 popular New York destinations based on the cost of lodging during the months of July and August. In particular, the average rate for the cheapest available double room (rated at least 3 stars) was established for each destination.

At an average rate of $324 per night for the most affordable room, East Hampton appears at the very top of the rankings. Southampton, which collectively forms the Hamptons along with East Hampton, ranks third most expensive at an average nightly price tag of $289. Meanwhile, Shelter Island takes the second spot at an overnight rate of $308.

In contrast, New York City seems to be rather affordable over the summer months at an average cost of $154 per night. Only a few dollars cheaper is Downtown Brooklyn, which rounds out the Top 10 at an average rate of $148 nightly.

The following table shows the Top 10 most expensive destinations in the state of New York this summer. The rates indicated reflect the average rate for the cheapest available double room (rated at least 3 stars) for the time period spanning July 1 to August 31, 2016.
