A.M. BestTV at The National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters Conference: Technology is Both Enabling and Upending Insurance Adjusting

OLDWICK, N.J.--()--In this A.M.BestTV episode from the annual National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters (NAIIA) Conference on Jekyll Island, GA, insurance adjusters said advances such as mobile technology and drones allow them to work faster and smarter, but technology is also replacing tasks formerly performed by adjusters. How technology is transforming independent adjusters and the claims industry, in particular, is the hot topic at this year’s conference.

“The increases in technology have certainly assisted us in getting our job done for our clients—doing it in a more efficient manner, a more traceable and supported manner,” said David Kearn, vice president, workers' compensation manager, Champion Claims Service. “It also makes for the communication between the client and the customer much easier and real-time oriented, which helps keep the parties all on the same page and as well informed as possible to make the appropriate decision on the claim.”

“The bottom line with technology is, do more with less,” said Peter Crosa, founder and chief executive officer, Peter J. Crosa and Company. “Before, when you would go out to write a property damage estimate on an apartment complex or a hotel, you would take reference manuals with you. You would be handwriting on paper with pencil your estimate and that might take you five to 10 days to work on that estimate. Today all this happens in six hours. It used to take six days.”

  • Peter Graf, senior vice president, Claims Service Corporation of America;
  • Martin Brown, insurance adjuster, Brown Adjustment Service, Inc.;
