Russian Grocery Leader O’KEY Selects JDA to Drive Higher Sales and Profits

By implementing JDA Category Management solutions, this retailer will maximize availability, minimize out-of-stocks and localize assortments — creating wins at the cash register

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--()--JDA Software Group, Inc., today announced that O’KEY Group, a leading grocery retailer in the Russian Federation, will implement a suite of solutions from JDA® Category Management™ — including JDA Space PlanningTM, JDA Floor PlanningTM, JDA Planogram GeneratorTM, JDA Web PublisherTM, JDA Space Automation ProTM and JDA Category Knowledge BaseTM. JDA’s regional partner, Strategix CFT, in cooperation with its main contractor, responsible for O’KEY’s IT infrastructure, will manage the implementation of these solutions, including training and knowledge creation.

O’KEY Group owns one of the largest grocery chains in Russia, which currently consists of 70 hypermarkets and 37 supermarkets. As Russia’s fourth-largest national hypermarket chain by revenue — and a national leader in terms of revenue per square meter of selling space — O’KEY has realized steady growth. However, now the company needs to make serious changes in its processes to manage its sophisticated category management tasks.

“The grocery retailer marketplace is not only competitive, it is constantly changing, and we know we need to create more localized offers for our customers and be much more store specific,” said Peter Rachovides, retail development director at O’KEY. “We also need to maximize our product availability to increase revenues and eliminate lost sales opportunities. We know that the key to our success is having the right product in the right store, at the right time, when a shopper comes looking for it.”

The grocery retailer’s historic category management tools and processes were proving insufficient to handle these sophisticated planning challenges. “We had no technology solution to help us analyze and optimize our trade space — and no linkage among category management, assortment planning and replenishment,” added Rachovides. “We knew we needed to realize our top-level strategic goals of sales and revenue growth more effectively in our stores every day. We decided to identify a best-in-class technology solution that would help us achieve that.”

After considering a number of software providers, O’KEY chose six Space Management solutions from JDA. “We elected to partner with JDA because it offered the best functionality and combined with Strategix CFT, has the broadest retail expertise to help with our deployment,” explained Nikolay Zatravin, chief information officer of O’KEY. “JDA had completed more than 30 similar projects here in Russia together with its local partners Strategix CFT. We were also impressed that its solutions are tightly integrated, which will help us link together different functions within the business.”

When the implementation is complete, O’KEY will benefit from optimized shelf assortments and layouts in each store that reflect the needs of local shoppers — including the right mix of categories, brands and products on the shelf and in the right place in the store. Corporate category management and space management rules will be enforced in every store via JDA solutions.
