Penn Mutual CEO to Receive 2016 Ellis Island Medal of Honor

National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations Recognizes Eileen McDonnell at 30th Annual Ceremony

HORSHAM, Pa.--()--Eileen McDonnell, chairman and chief executive officer of The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company (Penn Mutual), is to receive one of the 2016 Ellis Island Medals of Honor from the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) on May 7. The event will be the 30th annual ceremony for the organization, which celebrates diversity, fostering tolerance and championing respect for all citizens regardless of race, ethnicity or faith.

The Ellis Island Medals of Honor are awarded to a group of distinguished American citizens who exemplify a life dedicated to community service. The recipients are those who preserve and celebrate the history, traditions and value of their ancestry, while exemplifying the values of the American way of life.

“It’s an honor to be one of the recipients of The Ellis Island Medals of Honor, especially on an important anniversary for NECO,” says McDonnell. “I feel privileged to be added to the list of great patriots awarded with this recognition over the years. All four of my grandparents immigrated to America from Ireland and all of them positively influenced my life. This award is a testament to their legacy.”

The Medal has been recognized by both Houses of Congress as one of the nation’s most prestigious civilian awards. According to NECO, patriotism is the common thread that connects all the medalists, as they have all accomplished great things and are grateful to America for the opportunity to realize those dreams. Past winners who exemplify this patriotism and meet other requirements have included singer Frank Sinatra, civil rights activist Rosa Parks, and six former US presidents.
