Swimways Celebrates the Start of Summer with ‘National Learn to Swim Day’ on Saturday, May 21, 2016

Fifth Annual Campaign Brings Awareness to the Benefits of Learning to Swim During Water Safety Month

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.--()--Today, Swimways Corp., a leading outdoor recreational water products manufacturer and creator of the SwimWays® Swim Steps learn to swim product line, kicks off the start of National Water Safety Month by announcing their fifth annual ‘National Learn to Swim Day’ taking place on Saturday, May 21st, 2016. The annual campaign, held on the Saturday before Memorial Day weekend, aims to raise awareness about the importance of teaching children to swim. Approximately 10 people drown every day in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with nearly 25 percent children younger than 14. National Learn to Swim Day is deigned to combat this startling statistic with a dedicated website, TeachMeToSwim.com, that features water safety tips, learn to swim videos, resources and swimming aid products that families can utilize as they gear up for the start of the summer.

In addition to information and resources, TeachMeToSwim.com also features an event planning toolkit, a downloadable swimming achievement certificate, and coloring pages, so families nationwide can celebrate National Learn to Swim Day in their own way. Whether it’s enrolling children in local swimming instruction, hosting a learn-to-swim party, or reviewing water safety tips while coloring, Swimways makes it easy (and fun!) for parents and caregivers to teach children this essential life skill.

Customers will enjoy National Learn to Swim Day promotions at the following Swimways retail partners:

  • 20% off all learn to swim products at Toys”R”Us, in stores and online, May 1 - 7
  • 25% off learn to swim products at Toys”R”Us online May 23 - 24

“We’re excited to continue raising awareness about water safety with National Learn to Swim Day,” says Monica Jones, Vice President of Marketing, Swimways. “Swimming is a classic summertime activity that the whole family can enjoy together. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for children nationwide to learn this invaluable life skill, which is just as essential for fun as it is for safety!”

Parents and swim instructors can use SwimWays’ Swim Steps product line, a three-step program that features colorful swim-training aids, to help teach children to swim. The first step of the program is designed to introduce and comfortably support babies in the water; step two products give children the ability and freedom to explore as they develop confidence and learn to balance and paddle; and step three products provide graduated support, helping kids to feel empowered and confident as they strengthen and perfect their swimming skills.

Later this month, SwimWays will announce an exciting partnership that will further their mission of bringing awareness to water safety and enabling all children to learn how to swim, regardless of their race, gender or financial circumstances.
