RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MAXIMUS (NYSE:MMS), a leading provider of government services worldwide, announced today that John P. Crouse, Vice President of Health Services at MAXIMUS and an expert in pharmacy benefits management, will be a featured presenter at the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Mr. Crouse will present during a two-hour Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) panel about the benefits of utilizing a real-time Drug Information System (DIS) to help prevent prescription drug abuse and reduce potentially negative drug interactions. He will share successes of the DIS that MAXIMUS implemented in four Canadian provinces and highlight how DIS can improve efforts to reduce prescription drug abuse over the current post-dispense model used in most state PDMPs. The session will take place on Tuesday, May 3 and will also feature Deb Bass, CEO of the Nebraska Health Information Initiative, and Mike Menkhaus, R.Ph. EPRN Project Manager for Kroger Co.
“Current state systems compile information on prescription drugs only after they’ve been dispensed, delaying the ability to alert health care providers that there may be a problem. Drug Information Systems make this a real-time process so doctors and pharmacists are alerted before prescriptions are filled,” said John P. Crouse, Vice President of Pharmacy and Provider Programs at MAXIMUS. “I will share how the move to a real-time environment can go a long way in addressing the prescription drug abuse epidemic and will also highlight our work in several Canadian provinces, where we have already seen significant results.”
MAXIMUS will also highlight its DecisionPoint for Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) solution in the conference’s exhibit area. Mr. Crouse and a team of PBM experts will provide a demonstration of the DecisionPoint solution and will share their insights in deploying the solution across multiple projects.
The annual NCPDP Conference takes place from Monday, May 2 to Wednesday, May 4 in Scottsdale, Arizona. NCPDP is a leader in developing and promoting industry standards and business solutions for prescription drug programs that improve patient safety and health outcomes, while also decreasing costs.
