Judge John Antoon II, to Receive the 2016 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Eleventh Circuit

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--()--Judge John Antoon II, has been selected to receive the prestigious 2016 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Eleventh Circuit. The award will be presented in early May at the Eleventh Circuit Judicial Conference in Point Clear, Alabama, by Judge Susan H. Black.

Antoon is a senior judge on the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, where he has served since 2000. Previously, he served the State of Florida as Chief Judge of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit and as Chief Judge of the Fifth District Court of Appeal. He has been a faculty member at the College of Advanced Judicial Studies and the Florida Judges’ College, and an adjunct faculty member at several other institutions of higher learning. His private practice affiliations include, most recently, Stromire, Westman, Lintz, Baugh, McKinley and Antoon, P.A.

He is a founder and former president of the Vassar B. Carlton American Inn of Court and a former president of the George C. Young First Central Florida American Inn of Court. He served as chair-elect of the Florida Conference of Circuit Judges and president of the Florida Appellate Judges Conference.

Professional honors include the Dunn-Blount American Inn of Court Appreciation Award; the Orange County Bar Association’s James G. Glazebrook Memorial Bar Service Award; and the George C. Young First Central Florida American Inn of Court Outstanding Member Award. He was named Trial Judge of the Year in 2011 by the Central Florida Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Antoon has earned numerous academic degrees. He received his B.A. from Florida Southern College; M.S. from Florida Institute of Technology; J.D. from Florida State University; and L.L.M. from the University of Virginia. He received the Florida State University College of Law Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2013.

The American Inns of Court Professionalism Awards are awarded in participating federal circuits, to a lawyer or judge whose life and practice display sterling character, unquestioned integrity, and dedication to the highest standards of the legal profession and the rule of law.
