VAN NUYS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Valley Presbyterian Hospital (VPH) was awarded a $250,000 grant from the Henry L. Guenther Foundation in support of the hospital’s $8.4 million Emergency Department renovation and expansion project.
“We are deeply honored to receive this grant from the Henry L. Guenther Foundation,” said Pegi Matsuda, VPH Foundation President & Senior Vice President of Community Development. “The Foundation’s generous funding and support of our Emergency Department renovation and expansion project is instrumental in helping us to serve the critical health care needs of the community’s most vulnerable patients now and in the future.”
VPH’s Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the San Fernando Valley with more than 66,000 patient visits each year. The hospital’s Emergency Department patient volumes have increased significantly over the past few years, as many patients and families lack access to quality health care services. To continue to meet the region’s growing demand for critical and urgent medical care, VPH began construction to renovate and expand its Emergency Department in fall 2015.
Plans include adding 14,505 square feet of space, increasing the patient bed capacity from 24 to 34 beds, and modernizing patient and clinical areas to improve access, comfort and workflow. The project is scheduled to be completed over three years, and the Emergency Department will remain fully operational throughout construction to serve the community.
The Henry L. Guenther Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles. Established in 1956, the Foundation aims to improve social conditions, promote human welfare and alleviate pain and suffering by providing grant funding for educational purposes, hospital care and human services.
The VPH Foundation received the first installment of the grant in February, and is scheduled to receive the balance of the funding in January 2017. VPH will not provide any goods or services in exchange for the grant.
