Allianz Life Earns ENERGY STAR Certification, Ranks among Top 3 Percent of Similar-Sized Campuses

Company scores 97 out of 100 on EPA scale

MINNEAPOLIS--()--For the seventh consecutive year, Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life®) earned the prestigious ENERGY STAR certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Allianz Life received a score of 97 out of 100 on the EPA scale that assesses the energy efficiency of buildings nationwide. The certification ranks Allianz Life in the top 3 percent of similar-sized buildings in the U.S. According to the EPA, energy saved at the Allianz Life campus represents enough to power more than 673 homes and saves the company more than $1 million annually.

Allianz Life takes many steps to be an energy-efficient facility. Throughout 2015, the company enhanced many aspects of its operations. These include:

  • Updating HVAC equipment for improved energy-efficient operation.
  • Converting the lighting system to LED bulbs that reduce energy consumption by 50 percent.
  • Using motion sensors that only turn on air conditioning when needed.
  • Turning off heating/cooling systems and nonessential parking ramp lights during nonpeak operating hours.
  • Utilizing efficient blade data servers that require less cooling.

“Allianz Life strives to reduce the impact on our environment and this certification supports that commitment,” said Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Suzanne Dowd Zeller. “From recycling and composting programs to more efficient heating and cooling systems, we want our campus to be an environmentally friendly place where employees are proud to come to work.”

Now in its 23rd year, ENERGY STAR represents products in more than 70 categories, with more than 4.8 billion sold since it began. More than 1.5 million new homes and 22,000 facilities carry EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification. ENERGY STAR buildings on average use 35 percent less energy and release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
