Trafficware Awarded City of Houston Contract to Provide Central Traffic Management System

Fourth Largest U.S. City to deploy ATMS.now

HOUSTON--()--After a competitive bid, Trafficware Group Inc. was awarded Houston’s citywide project to upgrade the central traffic management system that controls the vast transportation network of the fourth largest city in the country.

The Houston project also includes converting all 2,500 intersections from older technology to Trafficware’s technologically advanced Patriot V76 traffic control software and upgrading to Trafficware’s advanced transportation management platform, ATMS.now™. The installation team also includes Gunda Corporation and Taylor Traffic Solutions, both highly-respected local consultancy firms. Deployment of the system is already underway.

“We are honored to have been chosen by the City of Houston to upgrade its arterial traffic infrastructure,” explains Trafficware CEO Jon Newhard. “The City of Houston has chosen a globally trusted expert as well as local resident to serve as its partner. Being able to deploy industry-leading solutions in the City of Houston -- on roads where our families, friends and co-workers drive every day -- makes this project all the more significant.”

The new ATMS.now software platform will allow the City to integrate a number of devices so they no longer have to operate as disparate systems and can react quickly to incidents and changing traffic conditions and communicate these situations to the motoring public. ATMS.now is compatible with CCTV cameras, changeable message signs (CMSs), battery backup systems, transit and emergency priority/preemption systems, vehicle detection systems from various manufacturers, and much more. Additionally, Trafficware provides more than a dozen system modules that allow the agency to expand the system to satisfy their future goals and objectives. Modules include SynchroGreen adaptive signal control, emergency response, transit signal priority, center-to-center (C2C).

Headquartered locally, Trafficware products are manufactured and supported here so City Traffic Engineers will have access to a full range of additional resources and expertise. Trafficware provides the world-leading traffic analysis, optimization, and simulation tool, Synchro® Studio, used by engineers in more than 90 countries.

Trafficware’s proximity also offers the City access to the most extensive product catalog in the traffic control industry, including: traffic controllers, cabinets and accessories, detection technologies, central management systems, adaptive systems, emergency response systems, traffic simulation software, and more.
