AHF Joins Forces with Community Leaders Opposing Georgia’s HB 757, so-called 'Religious Liberty' Bill that Will Foster Anti-LGBT Discrimination

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.--()--The following is a statement from Michael Kahane, Southern Bureau Chief – AIDS Healthcare Foundation:

“As the 2016 legislative session comes to a close, it is a sad day for the people of Georgia. The essence of what HB 757 mandates is very destructive to the very spirit of this state. As the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and home to numerous civil rights leaders that gave their lives to building the Beloved Community, where all people, no matter their race, gender identity or sexual orientation could live together, it’s beyond imaginable that Governor Deal or any of the members of the state legislature, who were elected to serve all people, would consider signing into law any bill that has discriminatory practices at its core and that further perpetuates the immense level of stigma against those within the L,G,B,T,Q community. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation joins our numerous partners throughout Georgia in being sternly opposed to this proposed bill, and is hopeful that the Governor will stay true to his commitment to not sign into law any bill that has the foundation of discrimination towards any Georgian.”
