Former Head of Americas Power at Thomson Reuters Joins IDC Energy Insights as Research Director

John Villali to spearhead research around utility digital transformation

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--()--With more than twenty years of experience in the energy industry and extensive knowledge of North and South American power and natural gas markets, John Villali joins IDC Energy Insights as Research Director. In this role, Villali will be responsible for developing thought leadership in the area of utility digital transformation. With specific industry experience focused on wholesale power supply and demand fundamentals, pricing, commodity trading risk assessment, peak load reduction, and congestion analysis, Villali is uniquely positioned to evaluate and communicate the intricate challenges that face the energy industry today.

Most recently, Villali worked as a Principal Consultant, with a concentration on wholesale and retail power markets at DNV-GL. Before his time at DNV-GL, he was Head of Americas Power at Thomson Reuters, supporting their Commodities and Energy division. Villali also held senior roles at prominent businesses including Cambridge Energy Research Associates, RWE Trading Americas, Genscape, and the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). With a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Villali also brings specific experience around energy policy, demand side management, distributed energy management, and the analysis of commodity trading, including the interpretation of fundamental drivers of energy markets and identifying trading opportunities through economic analysis.
