TrueCar Finds Consumers Discover Lucky Savings This March as Japanese Carmakers Conclude Fiscal Year

Green deals include lease specials and savings of up to 17% off MSRP

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Consumers in the market for a Japanese-badged car, utility or truck may be charmed in March given sizable savings off MSRP available on multiple models, including the 2016 Toyota Camry sedan, according to TrueCar, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUE).

“The close of Japan’s fiscal year at the end of March translates into heightened savings this month on many popular products,” said Eric Lyman, TrueCar’s vice president of industry insights. “Japanese auto brands aiming to reach annual sales targets are offering notable incentives, creating great opportunities for those ready to buy.”

Notable savings include Toyota’s 2016 Camry SE, currently transacting as much as 11 percent off MSRP, as well as the carmaker’s 2016 Prius v hybrid wagon, which is available with no-interest financing for up to 60 months. Honda is offering a special lease promotion of $179 for 36 months on its Civic compact model; Mazda is promoting a $223 lease special for 36 months on the CX-3 compact utility; and Nissan has a leasing special of $189 for 36 months on the Rogue compact utility.

The rise in competitive lease offers this year has increased their share among retail transactions. In January, industrywide lease penetration hit 34 percent, a 34 percent lift versus the year-ago month, outpacing the previous high of 33 percent in January 2000.

“Automakers are tailoring incentives to appeal to Millennials as they enter the auto market in larger numbers this year,” said Stacey Doyle, TrueCar’s senior industry analyst. “Leasing is particularly popular with this generation, and it makes sense for manufacturers to lean in to attract this important buyer group as they surpass Boomers in population size.”
