HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Industry-leading virtual reality, 3D visual effects and conversion company Legend 3D Inc. announced today the expansion of Legend VR, its new full-scale virtual reality division that will build tools designed to help studios, documentary filmmakers, retailers, and brands create high-performance interactive VR content.
The division will continue to build upon the partnership Legend announced in December with Littlstar, the global leader in 360-degree content distribution, to build the next generation of production and post-production virtual reality tools. The company will work coast to coast to build a sales force to engage key retailers and brands in VR programming, according to Matt Akey, Executive Vice President for Production and Chief Marketing Officer for Legend 3D.
“Legend VR offers a truly soup-to-nuts solution for clients looking to delve into -- or solidify -- their position in the virtual reality marketplace,” Akey said. “Our diversified offerings and existing 3D pipeline will allow us to seamlessly take clients’ ideas from concept to device-specific VR formatting, including on-set supervision and capture.”
Legend VR’s recent projects include The Click Effect, a film that premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival for which Legend performed stitching, VFX, and 3D functions, and “Take Flight,” from The New York Times’ Great Performers series, for which Legend completed CG/VFX work, stereo conversion, on-set capture of talent, color correction, and final 360-degree rendering.
Various other projects are currently underway with VRSE, Littlstar, and a number of other high profile key studio and agency clients.
As part of this expansion, Legend has also welcomed two new team members and promoted an in-house executive to prominent roles in the VR service line.
Will Maurer has joined the Legend team as Senior VFX and VR Producer. Maurer joins the Legend team from Deluxe, where he cut his teeth converting 2D theatrical content into stereoscopic 3D imagery on such projects as San Andreas, Point Break, Jurassic World and Mad Max: Fury Road.
3D artist Andrew Jerez has joined Legend as a VR and VFX Supervisor. His prior experience includes work with such clients as post-production studio Absolute, production company Gentleman Scholar, Transistor Studios, and visual effects studio Perception, and such musical acts as Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, Dr. Dre, DJ Kasakde, Girl Talk, and Zedd.
Finally, longtime Legend artist Ryan Cummins has been promoted to VR Supervisor.
"We know great talent when we see it, and the hiring and promotion of these three dynamic individuals only bolsters our reputation as the definitive market leader in virtual reality," Legend CEO Brian Robertson said. "Their partnership and contributions will be essential to our continued success in helping our clients produce the most cutting-edge, revolutionary experiences for consumers -- whether in the film, retail and consumer branding, or documentary space.”
Legend, whose clients include an array of Hollywood’s top studios, holds 23 patents in five countries for its advanced technology.
