NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Group SJR, an innovation consultancy and subsidiary of WPP’s H+K Strategies that specializes in strategy, content creation and audience development, announced today the appointment of Christa Carone as chief operating officer. She is also the managing director of Colloquial, a content marketing joint venture of J. Walter Thompson and SJR.
An accomplished corporate marketing and communications leader with major brands, Carone brings to SJR a unique blend of experiences that combine effective content-led brand building with thought leadership-driven reputation management. In her roles, she will advise on client strategies and lead SJR account management as the firm, noted by Fast Company as “the biggest publishing company you’ve never heard of,” continues to grow globally and across industries.
“Christa was an early believer in the power of content to help disrupt convention and she was an early adopter of smart content strategies that give brands a personal, relevant voice,” said Alexander Jutkowitz, CEO, SJR and Colloquial. “We first worked with Christa as a client and quickly came to respect her sharp approach to marrying insights with storytelling, her willingness to take creative risks and her high expectations for exceptional quality delivered in bold and believable ways. She kept us on our toes then and will do so even more as SJR and Colloquial stay in the forefront of breakthrough content marketing.”
"Our teams and our clients will benefit from the diverse perspectives Christa brings to this role,” said Gustavo Martinez, Worldwide Chairman and CEO, J. Walter Thompson Company. “Her respected leadership, coupled with her understanding of how to leverage content creation for brands, will be a strong asset as we continue to grow Colloquial.”
Carone most recently served as chief marketing and communications officer of Boston’s bid for the 2024 Olympic Games, her self-proclaimed “mid-life crisis” role following 25 years in corporate marketing and communications. Prior to Boston’s Olympic pursuit, Christa was an executive vice president at Fidelity Investments. She served as a marketing strategist for new business ventures and was also the executive vice president of communications and corporate affairs, leading Fidelity’s brand purpose strategies, corporate affairs, media relations, internal communications, social thought leadership, executive communications and events management. Before joining Fidelity in 2013, Christa spent 17 years in increasingly senior roles at Xerox Corporation, most recently serving as chief marketing officer. She led global marketing strategy and initiatives that included all communication touch points across paid, earned and owned channels of engagement. Her responsibilities included stewarding Xerox’s brand in 160 countries and leading the integration of brand management, data and digital, content, advertising, experiential marketing, communications, interactive and social marketing, citizenship and the Xerox Foundation.
“Through my CMO and CCO experiences, I continued to see the lines blur between promoting a brand and managing a corporate reputation,” said Carone. “Whether led by marketing or communications or an integrated approach between the two, content – really great content – is the driving force behind true stakeholder advocacy. And, increasingly, SJR has had a hand in creating, publishing and amplifying those stories that are the most engaging and memorable. SJR and Colloquial’s innovative approach to data-driven, multi-media, insightful communication strategies got my attention as a client and kept it as a marketing professional. For me, joining the firms that are pioneering the future of our industry aligns perfectly with my experiences and offers a unique opportunity to work with impressive brands that are strengthening customer connections through powerful storytelling.”
