OCC Announces Total Cleared Contract Volume up Four Percent in January

Securities Lending CCP Activity Up 29 Percent

CHICAGO--()--OCC, the world’s largest equity derivatives clearing organization, announced today total cleared contract volume for the month of January was up four percent from January 2015 with 371,870,087 contracts, marking the third highest January on record. Average daily volume at OCC was up nine percent from January 2015 with 19,572,110 contracts. OCC's stock loan program reported strong volume numbers in January with year-to-date activity up 29 percent.

Options: Exchange-listed options volume reached 364,671,833 contracts in January, up three percent from January 2015. Equity options volume last month was 326,368,339 contracts, a two percent increase from January 2015. Year-to-date average daily equity options volume is up seven percent with 17,177,281 contracts in 2016. Index options volume was up 18 percent with 38,303,494 contracts in January.

Futures: OCC total cleared futures volume in January was 7,198,254 contracts, a 41 percent increase from January 2015. OCC's year-to-date average daily cleared futures volume is up 48 percent with 378,855 contracts in January.

Securities Lending: OCC's securities lending CCP activities saw a 29 percent increase in new loans from January 2015 with 136,772 transactions last month. The average daily loan value at OCC in January was $145,523,001,364.
