Parents and Schools Team Up to Promote Parental Engagement in Schools

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--()--Local community leaders will host a training for parents about meaningful ways to get involved in their child’s school on Wednesday, January 20.

Parents Challenge is organizing the event in conjunction with National School Choice Week on January 20 from 5:30–8:00 pm at the 21 C Library to promote the importance of parental engagement. In addition to offering training, tools, and advocacy to parents, Parents Challenge has provided financial assistance to low income children for fifteen years.

“National School Choice Week raises awareness of all educational options for parents across the country. By partnering with them, we can turn that new awareness into action, visibly making an impact in parental choice in education,” said Deborah Hendrix, executive director of Parents Challenge.

This event promotes the importance of parental engagement. Parents in private, public, charter, and homeschool will attend, and schools are invited to showcase their options by hosting a table. The keynote speaker will be Dedrick Sims, CEO of Sims/Fayola Foundation. He is an educator, parent, community leader, author, and former executive director/founder of Denver’s first public charter schools for males.

Over 150 parents, school administrators, teachers, and students are expected to attend.
