Pluralsight Announces Second Annual hack.summit() Event

Event Will Support Nonprofits Devoted to Bringing Access and Diversity to Tech

SALT LAKE CITY--()--Pluralsight, the global leader in online learning for technology professionals, in cooperation with a number of corporate technology partners, will be holding the second annual hack.summit() on Feb. 22-25, 2016. Launched with 64,000 registrants last year, hack.summit() is both the world’s largest virtual event of any kind, and the largest event for programmers in history. Leaders who have made significant computer science contributions will join hands, take a stand for charitable causes, and educate the world for free in a virtual stage.

All ticket sales from the event are donated to coding nonprofits, who have allied behind this event. Nonprofits include Code.org, Women Who Code, Code for America, Black Girls Code, and many more. Last year’s event raised $50,000 for nonprofits; this year’s hack.summit() is expected to raise exponentially more.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the highest-caliber roster of speakers ever seen before at a programming event, including David Heinemeier Hansson (creator of Ruby on Rails), Orion Henry (founder of Heroku), Nathan Marz (creator of Apache Storm), Kent Beck (creator of Extreme Programming, co-creator of Agile, author of nine books), Tom Chi (creator of Google Glass), Rebecca Parsons (CTO of ThoughtWorks), Yehuda Katz (creator of Ember.js), Brian Fox (creator of the GNU Bash Shell), Jon Skeet (#1 answerer on StackOverflow), Dries Buyataert (creator of the Drupal programming language), Qi Lu (EVP at Microsoft), Rod Vagg (Node.js Technical Chair and Core Committer), Sarah Allen (co-creator of After Effects, Flash video, recent Presidential Innovation Fellow) and many more.

hack.summit() is also announcing this year the hack.summit() virtual hackathon, to be held on Feb 20-21, 2016 in conjunction with hack.summit(). The hackathon is an opportunity for developers to both to win their share of a $150,000 prize pool, and to “hack for good” as their programming efforts will help raise money for coding nonprofits. Over 30,000 developers have pre-registered for the hackathon from over 900 cities, making this the largest hackathon in history. Koding.com is organizing and powering this hackathon, and has agreed to subsidize the infrastructure costs to help nonprofits in the coding space.

“hack.summit() is a neutral rallying cry for the technology industry to gather together and stand for a cause,” said Ed Roman, founder of hack.summit(). “Oracle, IBM, Facebook, Microsoft, Github, Uber, ThoughtWorks, and many other companies have partnered behind this event to make it a reality. hack.summit() is a testament that social entrepreneurship and giving back to the greater good can produce extraordinary results.”
