Mooresville Graded School District Adopts MasteryConnect’s Competency-Based Learning Platform

MasteryConnect’s platform gives administrators, educators and students greater insight into learning

SALT LAKE CITY & MOORESVILLE, N.C.--()--Mooresville Graded School District (MGSD) and MasteryConnect announced today that they have partnered to provide the company’s mastery-based learning platform to the district’s 400 teachers and 6,100 K-12 students for three years.

MasteryConnect’s flexible, cloud-based platform helps teachers identify a student’s levels of understanding in real time and against any set of standards in order to personalize learning and improve outcomes. Its platform increases student, parent and educator empowerment and allows teachers to track progress and implement necessary changes.

MasteryConnect gives MGSD greater insight at every level (district, teacher and student) to enhance and improve instruction in each classroom through immediate feedback, assessments, results and legible data that allow for quick revision of teaching strategies. In the classroom, teachers can measure each student’s mastery of core concepts and see the trends and outliers to better understand how well their class is grasping curriculum, while also allowing them to better personalize classroom learning. While at the district level, MasteryConnect’s assessment tools allow MGSD to gauge reading, math, science, social studies and foreign language development across all grades levels.

“MGSD began its digital conversion eight years ago to integrate technology into its teaching and learning methodology. Each student is given an electronic device to use for learning needs throughout the school year,” said Dr. Mark Edwards, superintendent at MGSD and winner of the American Association of School Administrators’ National Superintendent of the Year award in 2013. “By implementing MasteryConnect into the classroom, teachers can issue assessments and know quickly which students are grasping teaching concepts and which need remediation. The platform takes it one step further by giving students a glimpse into how they are scoring and what they need to work on.”

MasteryConnect has proven to be a student-friendly platform. This student-facing platform will help MGSD continue its exemplary performance, such as national competition qualifications by its students, 90th percentile graduation rate and record-breaking scholarship dollars offered to their senior class students, to name a few.

“We believe that educators are the ones doing the work, and have the ability to impact student outcomes in a profound manner. We are major fans of teachers in the classroom, and grateful for their work improving lives and improving our country,” said Cory Reid, CEO of MasteryConnect. “We’re excited to partner with and support MGSD as they continue to lead change in education.”

MGSD is a member of the League of Innovative Schools, a network of superintendents and district leaders leveraging technology to improve student outcomes, which represents 3.2 million students in 73 districts across 33 states. The League propagates great ideas, accelerates improvement and drives success through collaboration within U.S. public education.

“Incorporating competency-based tools into teaching is precisely the type of action we want our schools to take,” said Sara Schapiro, Director of the League of Innovative Schools. “We’re excited to see MGSD taking strides in fully integrating technology that permits personalized learning and shapes student progress.”
