SmithBucklin Promotes James McNeil to Chief Executive, Business + Trade Industry Practice

CHICAGO--()--SmithBucklin, the association management and services company more organizations turn to than any other, is pleased to announce the promotion of James McNeil to Executive Vice President & Chief Executive of SmithBucklin’s Business + Trade Industry Practice, effective Jan. 1, 2016.

McNeil previously served as Senior Vice President of SmithBucklin’s Business + Trade Industry Practice, providing oversight for client organizations headquartered in Washington, D.C. Earlier this year, he was promoted to President & Publisher of Information, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of SmithBucklin that delivers high-impact, customized, cost-effective digital content solutions. McNeil will retain his responsibilities with Information, Inc.

In his new role, McNeil will lead all aspects of the Business + Trade Industry Practice, including strategy, client organization service delivery and performance, new client development, talent development and acquisition, operational excellence, financial management and thought leadership. McNeil will be replacing Matt Sanderson, who becomes President & CEO of SmithBucklin on Jan. 1.

McNeil has more than 30 years of experience working with associations and for-profit companies. In 2011 he joined SmithBucklin, serving as executive director of the Bank Insurance & Securities Association, where he successfully managed all aspects of the association’s operations and helped meet the strategic goals set by BISA’s leadership.

Prior to joining SmithBucklin, McNeil served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for BAI, an innovative membership-based association providing high-value information, education and research to the global financial services industry. He also served as chief operating officer for a division of The Times Mirror Company (now McGraw-Hill), leading product development and delivery, marketing and sales performance.

McNeil holds a Bachelor of Arts in marketing, journalism and advertising from Iowa State University, and he has completed the Kellogg Management Institute Executive Program at Northwestern University. He is also a graduate of the SmithBucklin Leadership Learning Forum, an intensive 12-month program that each year inspires the individual learning, self-discovery and personal growth of 15-20 SmithBucklin employees by exposing them to leadership concepts and principles.
