Ravello Supports Datacenter-Like Networking in the Public Cloud for F5

Nested virtualization leader delivers cloud-based network testing, design and training environments for virtual editions of F5

PALO ALTO, Calif.--()--Ravello Systems, the leading nested virtualization company, today announced virtual editions of F5’s BIG-IP® product family now run on Ravello technology, providing for an easy way to design, test and validate F5 deployments. Virtual editions of BIG-IP offer application services that have the same breadth of features as those that run on F5 purpose-built hardware.

Previously, F5 released dedicated products for cloud-born applications, with those offerings specific to cloud architectures. Ravello provides a new and unique way of leveraging AWS and Google Cloud capacity for modeling VMware-based environments that contain F5 products in a datacenter-like scenario.

Ravello’s virtual networking labs run on its HVX nested hypervisor with built-in overlay networking, making it easy to run VMware or KVM workloads on public clouds. This enables networking ISVs and enterprises to deploy their own on-demand virtual networking labs for sales demos, solution PoCs, testing and training without waiting for hardware or hosting providers.

“Ravello has become the platform of choice for ecosystem enablement by leading software companies that deliver virtual appliances, such as Arista, Nutanix and Check Point,” said Rami Tamir, CEO of Ravello Systems. “In effect, F5 is using Ravello technology to remove barriers and help enhance capabilities for the BIG-IP family of products, thus accelerating its partner enablement and end-user adoption in the industry.”

F5 Empowers Partner and Customer Ecosystem with Pre-Configured Blueprints on Ravello

In the application networking industry, F5 is recognized for delivering a steady stream of rich technologies on its BIG-IP platform, ranging from Advanced Firewall Manager, Local Traffic Manager, and Application Security Manager to Secure Web Gateway. Enabling and training partners and resellers on new versions continues to be a priority. To increase access for its channel, F5 has chosen to share fully configured, customizable F5 deployments with its ecosystem in the form of “blueprints” on Ravello.

In addition, when purchasing enterprise infrastructure, customers want to be able to experience the system for themselves, but in real-life scenarios that are representative of their datacenter. Network administrators want to be truly hands-on with the product that they are evaluating — by modeling different topologies. However, an absence of available spare hardware can prolong the sales cycle and proof-of-concept deployments. By providing its sales engineers and enterprise customers with access to a virtual lab in the cloud through Ravello, F5 has taken an innovative approach to accelerating industry adoption for its products.

“At F5, we focus on application availability, performance and security. We want to make sure that we can deliver any app, to any person, anywhere, at any time — and Ravello helps us achieve exactly that. After evaluating several solutions, it was clear Ravello was the partner that best fit our needs,” said Jim Johnson, director of systems engineering at F5. “With Ravello, my team has been able to provide our partners and customers on-demand access to F5 solutions, as well as train them on new and existing functionality — dramatically contributing to customer success.”

Together, F5 and Ravello empower a range of IT users, including:

  • F5 Customers: F5 customers can quickly evaluate ‘end-to-end’ F5 solution topologies on public cloud and begin customized PoC without needing any hardware
  • F5 Partners: F5 partners can stay current on the new and upcoming features being launched
  • F5 Resellers: F5 resellers can quickly perform sales demos in environments that are operational replicas of F5-approved reference architectures
  • F5 Trainers: F5 trainers can adapt their lab capacity on-demand and educate their trainees on labs deployed at a cloud location closest to the trainees—providing a local user experience.
