TAINAN, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Presidents’ Forum of Southeast and South Asia and Taiwan Universities (SATU Presidents’ Forum) held its annual steering committee meeting recently at Institute Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Bandung, Indonesia.
“This is the first SATU meeting being held out of Taiwan,” said Prof. Kadarsah Suryadi, Rector of ITB, at the opening ceremony on November 27.
He also mentioned the challenges the higher education is facing today. “SATU Presidents’ Forum could be used as a platform for us to share and learn from each other on running the institutes when facing the challenges,” he said.
“Special thanks to NCKU who has been very supportive to ITB,” said Suryadi, who added that ITB and NCKU working together to organize the meeting.
Prof. Huey-Jen Jenny Su, President of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and Chairperson of SATU President’ Forum said, “The only way to have SATU sustainable is to have every member institutes engaged in different ways through the time.”
She noted that to organize a meeting like this has been a discussion in the committee meeting at least for more than four years, so there have been different proposals from different institutions.
“I want to thank ITB specifically because from the former rector until current rector have been always supportive,” said President Su.
She also said, the function of steering committee every year is in a way to confirm and to advise how we precede. Every alternative year we will have the huge assembly.
According to Su, since the formation of SATU Presidents’ Forum in 2003, the Forum’s International Secretariat has been striving to ensure that we remain at the forefront of international higher-education organizations and for universities within this region to share their values.
A panel on Higher Education in Indonesia was held and topics about the Forum’s future development and activities are covered in the one-day meeting.
During the meeting, the International Secretariat reported on the activities held this year and the theme for 2016 was discussed and finalized.
